Comprehensive HIV Training

Community Alliance for Health and Development (CAFHED) Conducts Comprehensive HIV Training to Strengthen Community Health Systems in Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya — The Community Alliance for Health and Development (CAFHED) has successfully conducted a comprehensive HIV training aimed at strengthening community-level prevention, care, and referral systems across Kenya.

The training brought together Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), youth champions, peer educators, and frontline health workers to enhance their knowledge and skills in HIV prevention, testing linkages, treatment literacy, stigma reduction, and community-based support services.

Advancing Integrated HIV Response Through EMPOWER360

The HIV training was delivered under CAFHED’s flagship integrated model, EMPOWER360, which unites maternal and child health (MCH), early childhood development (ECD), adolescent wellbeing, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), SGBV prevention and response, and health systems strengthening into one cohesive platform.

By embedding HIV programming within broader community health and development systems, CAFHED ensures that prevention and care efforts are sustainable, inclusive, and responsive to community needs.

Building Capacity at the Frontline

The training focused on:

HIV prevention strategies and risk reduction education

HIV testing services referral pathways

Treatment literacy and adherence support

Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT)

Addressing stigma and discrimination

Adolescent-friendly HIV and SRHR services

Strengthening data collection and reporting systems

Participants engaged in interactive learning sessions, case discussions, and practical simulations designed to enhance real-world application within community health units.

Prioritizing Adolescents and Young Women

Recognizing that adolescent girls and young women remain disproportionately affected by HIV, the training emphasized rights-based, youth-friendly approaches. Participants were equipped with tools to provide accurate information, promote safe health-seeking behaviors, and create supportive spaces for adolescents to access HIV and SRHR services.

Strengthening Community Health Systems

The initiative aligns with CAFHED’s strategic pillar on Health Systems Strengthening by reinforcing the Community Health Strategy, improving referral linkages between community and facility levels, and enhancing workforce capacity.

Through improved coordination with health facilities and county health departments, the training supports more effective HIV case identification, linkage to care, and continuity of treatment.

Data-Driven Programming and Accountability

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) mechanisms were integrated throughout the training to ensure quality implementation and measurable impact. Participants were trained on structured reporting tools and community dashboard systems to support data-driven decision-making and adaptive programming.

Commitment to Sustainable Impact

CAFHED remains committed to advancing equitable access to HIV prevention and care services as part of its broader mission to operationalize the EMPOWER360 approach and build resilient maternal, child health, and early childhood development systems.

By investing in frontline capacity and community leadership, CAFHED continues to empower communities, prevent diseases, and advance sustainable development.
