Dr. Rose Akinyi Opondo serves as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Community Alliance for Health and Development (CAFHED–Kenya), where she provides strategic governance, policy oversight, and ethical leadership to advance the organization’s mission in community health and development. She is a Senior Lecturer at Moi University with over fifteen years of experience as a lecturer, examiner, and researcher, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate
students. Her scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed journal articles, a book chapter, and a book-length publication, reflecting strong research credibility and academic excellence.
Dr. Opondo serves as Secretary of the Kenya Oral Literature Association and Vice President of the International Society of Oral Literatures in Africa, demonstrating her active engagement in regional and international scholarly networks. She is also a reviewer for leading African literary journals, underscoring her analytical rigor and commitment to quality scholarship. As a former Chairperson of the Department of Literature, Linguistics, Foreign Languages and Film Studies, she brings extensive institutional leadership experience, including strategic planning, team management, and academic administration.
A trained curriculum developer with advanced certifications in pedagogical leadership and research training, Dr. Opondo strengthens CAFHED’s capacity development pillar by supporting evidence-based programming and structured community education initiatives. Her research explores oral literature in relation to health, ecology, and socio-economic development, integrating indigenous knowledge systems into contemporary development discourse. This culturally responsive approach enhances grassroots engagement, behavioral change communication, and sustainable community impact.
Her passion for girls’ education and women’s empowerment reinforces CAFHED’s rightsbased and inclusive development agenda. Dr. Opondo brings scholarly depth, governance expertise, cultural insight, and gender advocacy to the Board, effectively bridging academia and community practice to advance sustainable health, education, and empowerment outcomes for the communities CAFHED serves.
